Dialogue with Sylvia Briem, in Reykjavik.

Goðafoss was an Icelandic merchant ship coming from NY, on November 10th, 1944. It sank off Faxaflói, the bay outside Reykjavik, at a sight distance from the city, after being torpedoed by a German U-Boat.

Sylvia Briem is not a survivor but she knew one of the families that drowned with Goðafoss. Sylvia showed me photographs of the family done by her father a couple of days before they departed from New York.

In her words: 'My father left us an extensive album about our family gatherings and as such also many moments of my childhood. They had been staying with us for one week and were now on their way back from New York to Reykjavik.'
